[Edaily Reporter KIM YOON-JEONG ] The KOSPI surged 5% during trading on the 22nd, regaining the 7,000-point level. This was driven by buying interest centered on semiconductor stocks such as SamsungElectronics and SK hynix, fueled by a strong rebound in U.S. semiconductor stocks overnight. Shortly after the market opened, the 20th buy-side circuit breaker of the year was triggered on the KOSPI market.

According to MP Doctor on the 22nd, as of 1:20 p.m., the KOSPI was trading at 7,090.80, up 342.85 points (5.08%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 7,052.09 and rose to 7,166.00 during the session, regaining the 7,100 level.
In terms of market sentiment, foreign investors are net buyers of 2.8028 trillion won worth of stocks on the KOSPI market. In contrast, retail investors and institutions are net sellers of 2.6508 trillion won and 114.8 billion won, respectively.
At 9:06 a.m., shortly after the market opened, KOSPI 200 futures rose 5.40% from the reference price, triggering the buy-side sidecar mechanism on the stock market. As a result, the execution of program buy orders was temporarily suspended for five minutes.
Overnight, the New York stock market closed higher across the board as bargain-hunting buying, centered on semiconductor stocks that had recently plummeted, flowed into the market. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) surged 5.2%, with Micron up 12.2%, SanDisk up 14.3%, and SK hynix ADRs listed on the New York Stock Exchange jumping 13.8%.
Kang Jin-hyuk, a senior analyst at Shinhan Investment Securities, analyzed, “Confirmation of NVIDIA’s mass production and supply of the Veralubin chip, along with Super Micro Computer’s (SMCI) new orders, reaffirmed strong artificial intelligence (AI) demand and profitability, which served as a catalyst to overcome the recent market noise,” adding, “Alphabet’s earnings announcement tomorrow will also be an important inflection point.” He added, “Given that foreign investors are continuing to make net purchases in both spot and futures markets and are expanding their net spot purchases, we need to assess whether the inflow of supply and demand will continue to determine the possibility of the stock market having bottomed out.”
Among the top KOSPI stocks by market capitalization, No. 1 SamsungElectronics(005930)is trading at 273,000 won (up 5.41%), and No. 2 SK hynix(000660)is trading at 1,955,000 won (up 6.48%).
In addition, SKSQUARE(402340)(3.27%), SamsungElectronics(1P)(005935)(5.88%), SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)(7.10%), HyundaiMotor(005380)(7.89%), LG Energy Solution(373220)(4.10%), Samsung Life Insurance(032830)(4.27%), SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS(207940)(0.22%), KB Financial Group(105560)(0.57%), SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION(028260)(7.57%), and KIA CORPORATION(000270)(3.60%) are all showing gains.
The KOSDAQ market is also continuing its upward trend. At the same time, the KOSDAQ index is trading at 775.38, up 22.04 points (2.93%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 772.41 and rose as high as 789.23 during the session.
In the KOSDAQ market, retail investors are net buying 270.2 billion won worth of stocks. Foreign investors and institutions are net selling 148.0 billion won and 121.7 billion won worth of stocks, respectively.
Among the top-market-cap stocks on the KOSDAQ, the No. 1 stock, Alteogen Inc.(196170), is trading at 276,000 won (up 1.10%), and the No. 2 stock, ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540), is trading at 111,500 won (up 5.29%).
In addition, ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520)(up 6.25%), Rainbow Robotics(277810)(up 21.75%), WONIK IPS Co.,Ltd.(240810)(up 1.89%), LEENO Industrial Inc(058470)(up 6.29%), and EO Technics Co., Ltd.(039030)(up 1.10%) are showing gains. Conversely, JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930)(down 0.35%), PSK INC.(319660)(down 3.71%), HLB INC.(028300)(down 2.30%), and SAM CHUN DANG PHARM CO. LTD(000250)(down 2.86%) are trading lower.
