The Government Joint Investigation Headquarters for Drug Crimes (Joint Investigation Headquarters) announced on the 22nd that, as a result of an intensive crackdown on cannabis cultivation offenders conducted over approximately four months starting March 4, a total of 12 individuals were indicted on charges of violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics. According to the JIT, among those indicted, Mr. A, a member of a hip-hop group in his 40s, was indicted and detained on charges of cultivating three cannabis plants at his home from May of last year through May of this year and possessing approximately 155.9 grams of cannabis. Three composers in their 40s were indicted without detention on charges of jointly cultivating cannabis over an extended period starting in 2019 and possessing more than 900 grams of cannabis. Investigations revealed that they had cultivated cannabis at their residences by installing plant-growing tents, LED lights, and automatic watering systems. This investigation was conducted based on an analysis of customs clearance records obtained by the Seoul Customs Office. The Joint Investigation Task Force stated that, noting cannabis cultivation typically occurs in 3- to 4-month cycles, they pinpointed the cultivation period and raided the sites before evidence could be destroyed, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
