According to MP Doctor, as of 9:04 a.m., the KOSPI is trading at 6,984.27, up 186.57 points (2.74%) from the previous trading day. The index briefly rose to 6,993.34 during the session, coming within striking distance of regaining the 7,000 mark. The KOSDAQ is also trading at 766.90, up 15.81 points (2.10%). The S&P 500 index closed at 7,498.96, down 0.14% from the previous trading day, the Nasdaq closed at 25,690.90, down 0.57%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 52,218.58, down 0.01%. After the market closed, Alphabet reported second-quarter revenue of $119.8 billion and earnings per share (EPS) of $9.11, exceeding all market expectations. Google Cloud revenue rose 82% year-over-year to $24.77 billion, significantly exceeding expectations, while the monthly active users (MAU) for its AI service “Gemini” reached 950 million, surpassing the forecast of 920 million. Operating income rose 30% year-over-year to $40.8 billion. However, with capital expenditures (CapEx) hitting a record high of $44.9 billion, free cash flow (FCF) turned to a $5.9 billion deficit, weighing on investor sentiment. NVIDIA rose 2.3%, leading a rebound in semiconductor stocks, but major tech stocks such as Microsoft (-1.9%) and Apple (-0.6%) were generally weak. Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, said, “The stock market today is expected to remain volatile amid a mix of upward and downward factors—including the burden of rising oil prices and interest rates, the aftermath of Alphabet’s after-hours stock decline, and the after-hours strength of U.S. semiconductor stocks like Micron following Alphabet’s upward revision of its CapEx guidance.” She added, “During the trading session, the market is expected to shift toward sector-specific divergence depending on the results of individual earnings events, such as those of HyundaiMotor(005380), NH INVESTMENT & SECURITIES(005940), and KB Financial Group(105560).” On the stock market, foreign investors are supporting the index with net purchases of 153.8 billion won. In contrast, institutions and retail investors are net sellers by 108.0 billion won and 44.7 billion won, respectively. Top-market-cap stocks are rising across the board. SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)(+6.54%), SK hynix(000660)(+4.04%), SamsungElectronics(1P)(005935)(+3.51%), SamsungElectronics(005930)(+3.17%), SKSQUARE(402340)(+2.28%), HyundaiMotor(005380)(+2.51%), LG Energy Solution(373220)(+1.71%), Samsung Life Insurance(032830)(+1.09%), and SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS(207940)(+1.75%) are all up. As of this writing, the KOSDAQ is trading at 766.90, up 15.81 points (2.10%). Retail investors are net buyers of 15.2 billion won, while foreign and institutional investors are net sellers of 12.2 billion won and 3.0 billion won, respectively. Most of the top-market-cap stocks on the KOSDAQ are trading higher.
