The group LUN8 has returned with a refreshing vibe after a 10-month hiatus. However, the “refreshing” image LUN8 portrays isn’t a polished or contrived one. The members defined their youth as “chaotic and wild.” They infused their fourth mini-album *Off the Grid*, released on the 22nd, with the raw energy born from playfully bumbling around and the sense of freedom gained from their European tour.

In a recent interview with Edaily, Lunate members unanimously stated, “‘Off the Grid’ is an album where we break free from set frameworks to redraw our own starting line,” adding, “We wanted to show the real Lunate on stage rather than a staged version.”
Jinsu said, “In the past, we focused on perfectly executing what we had prepared,” adding, “After returning from our European tour, I began to wonder, ‘Isn’t sticking only to what we’ve prepared actually limiting our charm?’” He continued, “Just like the title ‘Off the Grid,’ we wanted to show a slightly freer and more natural side on stage,” explaining, “We captured that process of change in this album.”
The catalyst for this change was the European tour. The members interacted with local fans in unexpected ways and experienced a different kind of joy on stage than they had before.
Junwoo said, “I used to think we had to stick strictly to what we’d rehearsed, but during our European performances, the fans responded enthusiastically even to our improvisations,” adding, “I realized that showing my own unique charm is more important, and that experience naturally flowed into this promotional period.”
Jinsu added, “We did things that weren’t planned—like spontaneously adding choreography that wasn’t in the rehearsal or splashing water during the performance—and the fans actually enjoyed it even more,” noting, “That free-spirited atmosphere carried over into this album.”

This transformation is most clearly reflected in the title track “SNEAKERS.” The song celebrates youth as they tie their shoelaces and set out on their own paths, and the members unanimously agreed that they knew it was the title track the moment they first heard it.
Kael said, “The moment I heard the chorus, I thought, ‘This is it,’” adding, “It’s addictive enough to stick in your memory after just one listen, and above all, I thought it was the song that suited Lunate best.”
Takuma also said, “I thought the ‘Sneakers’ theme itself would resonate with listeners,” adding, “Since it’s the refreshing concept we usually love, I had even higher expectations.”
The members’ involvement in this promotion has also expanded. Junwoo, Takuma, and Ian directly participated in creating the signature choreography, developing moves that anyone can easily follow.
Junwoo explained, “I wanted to create choreography that was fun and easy to follow rather than difficult,” adding, “We shared various ideas with the members so that fans could enjoy it as a challenge as well.”

Lunate’s definition of “refreshing” also differs slightly from conventional norms.
Kael laughed, saying, “When people think of ‘refreshing,’ they imagine a pretty and proper image, but the image of us acting like students—messing around and running about—is more true to who we are.” Jinsu emphasized, “While there are many groups with a ‘youth’ theme, we didn’t want to portray a fabricated version of youth; we wanted to show who we are as we live in this very moment,” adding, “This is an album that captures youth just as it is.”
When asked what title they’d like to earn through this promotion, Kael said, “We’d like to be called a versatile group that represents youth,” adding, “Our goal is to wrap up this promotion successfully and carry that momentum through to the year-end stages.”
Marking their third year since debut, LUNATE has made this album a new starting point.
Kael said, “We were most involved in the production process for this album, and we tried many new things,” adding, “Going forward, we want to grow into a group that handles everything from choreography and music to production ourselves. If I had to describe Lunate right now in one word, it would be ‘just the beginning.’”
