[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] KBS has drawn a clear line regarding the controversy surrounding singer Hwang Young-woong’s song “I’ll Prescribe You Love” for the drama OST, stating, “The track was not included in the drama, nor is it part of the official OST.” Hwang Young-woong (Photo: Golden Voice) In a recent response to a viewer petition, KBS stated, “We became aware of Hwang Young-woong’s participation in the OST four episodes before the drama’s finale,” adding, “At that time, the entire musical arrangement—including the OST tracks to be used through the final episode—had already been finalized, so regardless of the controversy surrounding Hwang Young-woong, we were unable to incorporate that track.” They went on to explain, “We informed the drama production company and the OST production company that Hwang Young-woong’s track could not be included in the broadcast, and we made it clear that the drama OST title could not be used either.” KBS elaborated, “Generally, a drama OST refers to the songs actually featured in the broadcast.” However, they also made it clear that the release of the track itself falls under the authority of the record label. KBS stated, “We understand that the track was released as scheduled, and we have confirmed that the designation ‘Prescription for Love OST’ was not used.” “If You Love,” sung by Hwang Young-woong, was released on the 14th via various music platforms but was released without the drama OST designation. This controversy arose after news of Hwang Young-woong’s participation in the drama became public. On the viewer petition board, petitions opposing his appearance and those supporting the song’s release were posted in quick succession, sparking a clash of opinions. Through this response, KBS has reaffirmed its position that the track was not used in the drama’s broadcast and is not recognized as part of the official OST. Hwang Young-woong voluntarily withdrew from the 2023 MBN show “Burning Trot Man” after allegations of school bullying and a past criminal record for assault came to light. Having suspended his activities since then, he issued a statement in January of this year denying the allegations and recently resumed performing at the Gangjin Celadon Festival.
