[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] KNS CO., LTD ( KNS CO., LTD(432470)), a company specializing in unmanned automation for high-tech industries, announced on the 27th that it has signed a contract worth approximately 1.5 billion won to supply cylindrical battery automation equipment. Amid growing global demand for energy storage systems (ESS), KNS CO., LTD continues to secure orders for its cylindrical battery automation equipment. (Photo courtesy of KNS CO., LTD) This order is for automation equipment to be applied to the manufacturing process of next-generation 2170 cylindrical batteries, featuring high-precision inspection capabilities utilizing AI-based deep learning technology. The equipment is scheduled to be deployed in key production stages, such as the sealing process. In response to growing demand for cylindrical batteries this year, KNS CO., LTD has been signing a series of supply contracts for automation equipment for 2170 and 4680 (46-pai) battery manufacturing processes. The company explained that as the range of applications for cylindrical batteries expands, demand for related manufacturing equipment is also increasing accordingly. Cylindrical batteries are a battery form factor whose applications are expanding across the entire spectrum of future mobility, including electric vehicles (EVs), robotaxis, humanoid and industrial robots, and Urban Air Mobility (UAM). Recently, against the backdrop of rising power demand in AI data centers, the adoption of cylindrical batteries is also expanding in the energy storage system (ESS) and battery backup unit (BBU) markets. Major global battery cell manufacturers are also stepping up their supply of cylindrical batteries to target the ESS and BBU markets for data centers. A BBU is a distributed emergency power supply unit installed inside server racks to provide power to individual servers and equipment. While an ESS ensures a stable power supply for the entire data center, a BBU prevents data loss and system downtime by providing immediate power during emergencies such as power outages. A KNS CO., LTD official stated, “As the adoption of cylindrical batteries expands across the Chonbang industry, orders for related automation equipment continue to come in,” adding, “With numerous projects currently under discussion, we will focus on securing additional orders by leveraging the competitiveness of our manufacturing facilities.”
