[Edaily Starin Choi Hee-jae Reporter] Director Lee Chang-dong’s new film, “Possible Love,” will first reach audiences through a theatrical release. Poster for the film “Possible Love” (Photo: Netflix) Netflix announced on the 28th, “‘Possible Love’ will open in Korean theaters on September 23. It will then be released on Netflix on November 6.” Following the theatrical releases of Netflix films such as “Frankenstein,” “Maestro Bernstein,” and “The Irishman,” Director Lee Chang-dong’s new film will also be available in theaters first. “Possible Love” tells the story of two couples—a laid-off worker and his wife, and a documentary director and her husband—who meet to produce a documentary and come face-to-face with each other’s different lives and hidden desires. It is Director Lee Chang-dong’s first new film in eight years since “Burning,” and is generating high anticipation with a cast featuring Jeon Do-yeon, Seol Kyung-gu, Jo In-sung, and Jo Yeo-jeong. The released poster depicts “Mi-ok” (Jeon Do-yeon) and “Ye-ji” (Jo Yeo-jeong), holding a camera, beneath a tree swaying in the wind against a pre-dawn sky illuminated by the moon. The scene, in which “Ye-ji”—who is filming a documentary about the laid-off worker—and “Mi-ok,” the worker’s wife, gaze at each other as if discovering one another, evokes an unusual atmosphere and a sense of tension. “Possible Love” has been officially invited to the Competition section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival and the Special Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, receiving recognition for its artistic merit.
