Na Hong-jin’s ‘Hope’ Tops the Box Office for 14 Consecutive Days

According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 29th, “Hope” took the No. 1 spot at the box office on the 28th, drawing 100,148 viewers. This brings its cumulative audience total to 3,619,234.
Director Na Hong-jin’s new film “Hope” has continued its box office success, ranking first for 14 consecutive days since its release on the 15th. “Hope” tells the story of Beom-seok, the head of the Hopo Port branch office near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), who receives reports from village youths about a tiger sighting and is subsequently confronted with an unbelievable incident that shakes the entire village.
Second place went to Universal Pictures’ “Minions & Monsters.” It drew 22,067 viewers that day, bringing its cumulative total to 606,430. Disney’s “Moana,” which garnered attention as a live-action adaptation of an animated film, took third place with 15,557 viewers. The cumulative audience for “Moana” stands at 939,876.
Following these, Disney·Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” and “The Eye,” starring Shin Min-a, ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
With Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” set to open today (the 29th), all eyes are on whether “Hope” can maintain its momentum.
