[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] Asia Pacific Satellite Inc.(211270)announced on the 29th that it has signed a service contract with KOREA AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES (KARI) for the “production of a prototype board for the lunar lander’s navigation computer processor module.”

This project is part of the “Lunar Exploration Phase 2 (Lunar Lander Development)” project, with a total budget of 530.3 billion won. Asia Pacific Satellite Inc. plans to manufacture prototype boards for high-performance processor modules to be used in the lunar lander’s navigation computer and to verify the manufacturing process and space-environment reliability of the high-density packages.

The company will establish procedures for precision mounting, rework, non-destructive testing, and environmental testing of high-density packages in accordance with European space standards, and will evaluate manufacturing process suitability and reliability in the space environment. The company plans to utilize the established process conditions and test data for the future production and quality assurance of electronic modules for satellites, landers, and rovers.

The production of these prototype boards and key tests will be conducted at the Asia Pacific Satellite Inc. AIT Center, which was completed last May. Following its participation in the development of electronic components and integrated electrical testing for “Danuri,” South Korea’s first lunar orbiter, as part of the first phase of the lunar exploration project, the company will now also participate in the second phase of the lunar exploration project.

Lee Seong-hee, CEO of Asia Pacific Satellite Inc., stated, “As lunar exploration missions become more sophisticated, the importance of manufacturing and verification technologies for electronic modules that operate stably in the space environment is growing.” He added, “Based on the experience accumulated through the Danuri project and the capabilities of our AIT Center, we will expand our technology portfolio to meet the needs of subsequent space projects, such as lunar landers and exploration rovers.”
