[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] Actor Lee Dong-gun is joining JTBC’s “Divorce Cooling-Off Camp” as the new family affairs investigator. He will be filling the spot vacated by Jin Tae-hyun.
Lee Dong-gun said on the 29th that he received an offer to appear on the show through the production team of “Divorce Cooling-Off Camp” and gave it more thought than anyone else. He said, “I was pleasantly surprised because it’s a show I’ve always liked and enjoyed watching, but I had serious concerns about whether I was qualified to offer criticism or advice to people facing a divorce crisis—especially as someone who has experienced the same pain—and how that might be perceived.” He added, “However, I decided to accept the offer with the thought that, as someone who has been through it, I could stand by the participants’ side based on empathy and understanding.”
He continued, “Through my own experiences, I want to show greater empathy for the participants’ situations and struggles, and I hope my advice comes across as more personal and sincere to them.”
She also shared what surprised her during the actual filming. “Since there were so many shocking stories, I wondered if some parts might be slightly exaggerated, but they were all real stories with no embellishment,” she explained. “In particular, it was truly impressive to see Senior Seo Jang-hoon yelling so loudly that his voice would crack during every recording.”
Finally, he sent a message of encouragement to couples hesitating to appear on the show, saying, “Rather than being trapped within their own narrow perspective and world, their effort to view problems objectively and resolve them through the empathy and advice of many people deserves applause in and of itself. That is why I respect the courage of all the participants.”
Lee Dong-gun married Jo Yoon-hee in 2017, and they had a daughter. However, in 2020—three years into their marriage—they announced their divorce. Since “Divorce Reflection Camp” deals with the stories of couples on the brink of divorce, attention is focused on whether Lee Dong-gun will join the show to open up about his ex-wife and the divorce process.
Episode 93 of JTBC’s “Divorce Reflection Camp,” featuring new cast member Lee Dong-gun, will air this Thursday, the 30th, at 10 p.m.
