[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] Amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East—including the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps striking three oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz and the Houthi rebels considering imposing tolls on ships transiting the Red Sea—shipping stocks are rallying across the board on the domestic stock market.

According to MP Doctor on the 30th, as of 9:13 a.m. today, STX Green Logis(465770)is trading at 2,790 won, up 8.35% from the previous trading day. During the session, the stock briefly rose as much as 14.0% to 2,935 won.

At the same time, other shipping stocks—including HeungaShipping(003280)(up 6.54%), KoreaLine(005880)(up 6.35%), PanOcean(028670)(up 4.54%), and HMM(011200)(up 3.70%)—are all rising across the board.

HeungaShipping, which opened at 1,806 won—down 0.82%—was trading as high as 2,130 won, up 16.97%, shortly after the market opened.

These stocks have exhibited the characteristics of thematic stocks, with their prices fluctuating whenever geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have escalated this year.

Reuters reported on the 29th (local time) that Yemen’s pro-Iranian Houthi rebels are considering imposing tolls on merchant ships passing through the southern Red Sea. This comes just one week after they declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia.

On the same day, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) struck three oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, halting their voyages. In a statement, the IRGC emphasized, “The brave members of the IRGC Navy will continue to maintain complete control over the Strait of Hormuz.”
