[Edaily Reporter Shin Yeong-bin ] Samsung SDS (SAMSUNG SDS CO., LTD.(018260)) announced on the 30th that it posted an operating profit of 231.8 billion won in the second quarter of this year, a 0.7% increase compared to the same period last year.

Revenue for the same period reached 3.7178 trillion won, a 5.9% increase from the second quarter of last year. Amid balanced growth in the IT services and logistics businesses, the expansion of the cloud business, contract logistics, and the digital logistics platform “Cello Square” contributed to the improved performance.

Revenue for the IT Services division reached 1.7625 trillion won, a 5.0% increase compared to the same period last year. Within this, revenue from the cloud business totaled 779.4 billion won, up 17% from the same period last year. In particular, revenue from external cloud business surged 75% year-over-year, driving growth in the IT Services division.

Within the cloud business, the Cloud Service Provider (CSP) segment grew 24% year-over-year, driven by increased demand for the Samsung Cloud Platform (SCP) and the expansion of GPUaaS services in the public and external sectors. The Cloud Management Service (MSP) segment grew 17% due to increased Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX) projects in the financial sector and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) projects in the shipbuilding sector.

Revenue in the logistics business segment reached 1.9553 trillion won, a 6.6% increase compared to the same period last year. This was driven by growth in air freight forwarding and contract logistics focused on inland transport and warehousing, as well as the expansion of external business centered on Chello Square.

Since declaring its ambition to become a global AX leader, Samsung SDS has been strengthening its competitiveness in full-stack AI business, encompassing AI infrastructure, AX and AI services, and AI platforms and solutions.

In the AI infrastructure sector, the company was selected in June as a key partner for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s “GPU Acquisition, Deployment, and Operation Support Project” and is participating in the construction of the national AI infrastructure. Following the introduction of Korea’s first NVIDIA B300-based GPUaaS in March, the company launched an NPUaaS product based on the domestically developed FuriosaAI Renegade this month.

In the AX and AI services sector, the company is expanding its business with a focus on the financial sector. In April, Samsung SDS was selected as the preferred bidder for the “AI Agent Deployment Project for AX,” which involves deploying more than 175 AI agents for Woori Bank’s core operations. Subsequently, it also secured a contract to build a generative AI system for the Export-Import Bank of Korea.

In the AI platform and solutions sector, the company is driving the adoption of AI in the public and private sectors based on its generative AI solution, BritiWorks. Samsung SDS has also established partnerships with global frontier AI companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google Cloud.

The company is also continuing to make strategic investments to identify new business opportunities. Last May, Samsung SDS, together with SamsungSecurities and SAMSUNG CARD CO., LTD., acquired a 4% stake in Dunamu, a domestic digital asset exchange. Based on this investment, the company plans to identify business opportunities in the digital asset infrastructure market.

In the physical AI sector, the company made a strategic investment last month through Samsung Venture Investment in Waldon Robotics, a U.S.-based full-stack physical AI company. Starting with Waldon Robotics, Samsung SDS intends to expand partnerships with global robotics companies and pursue a robot orchestration business that integrates and controls various robots to link them with manufacturing execution systems.

It is also expanding its investments in AI infrastructure. Samsung SDS plans to increase its existing 110 MW of AI infrastructure to 230 MW by 2029 and, by 2031, expand the scale of its AI infrastructure business—including design, build, and operate (DBO) projects—to over 800 MW.
