[Edaily Starin Choi Hee-jae Reporter] The 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has selected actress Kim Min-ha as the sole host for its opening ceremony.

The Busan International Film Festival announced on the 31st, “We have selected Kim Min-ha, an actress who is currently experiencing the most remarkable growth, as the sole host of the opening ceremony.” As the festival continues to solidify its international standing following the introduction of a competition section last year, it will kick off the opening ceremony alongside actress Kim Min-ha.
Since her debut in 2016, Kim Min-ha has built her own distinctive filmography, moving seamlessly between the big screen and television. In particular, she garnered significant attention for her role as the young “Sunja” in the globally acclaimed Apple TV series *Pachinko* (2022, 2024), delivering a nuanced and compelling portrayal of a character who lives a resilient life amid the turbulent times. Thanks to these achievements, she won the Newcomer Award in the TV category at the 2022 Asian American Awards, proving her potential on the international stage.
Since then, she has been broadening her acting range by taking on roles across various genres, including the dramas *The Lighting Store* (2024), *One Week Before I Die* (2025), and *Typhoon Corporation* (2025), as well as the film *Hana Korea* (2026). She has established herself as a leading actress of the next generation by winning the Best Actress Award in the International Competition category at the 2025 Seoul Drama Awards, the Best New Actress Award at the 2025 Blue Dragon Series Awards, and the Best Actress Award (Rising Star) at the 2026 Korea First Brand Awards, among others.
Regarding the selection of the host, the Busan International Film Festival stated, “This decision was made after taking note of actress Kim Min-ha’s unique career trajectory, during which she has faithfully portrayed the inner lives of her characters through profound interpretations in each project.” They added, “We expect that Kim Min-ha’s composed hosting at this opening ceremony will further enhance the festival’s prestige.”
Kim Min-ha stars in the Netflix series *Sweet Part-Time Job* and the Disney+ series *The Miracle of Namiya General Store*. *Sweet Part-Time Job* is set to premiere this year, while *The Miracle of Namiya General Store* is scheduled for release next year.
The 31st Busan International Film Festival will be held for 10 days from October 6 to 15 at the Busan Cinema Center and surrounding areas.
