On the 1st, Lee Soo-ji posted an apology on her YouTube channel “Hot Issue Ji,” beginning with the statement, “I sincerely bow my head in apology to everyone who felt uncomfortable or disappointed by the episode titled ‘The Truly Noble Profession: Civil Servant.’”
She apologized, stating, “It is my unpardonable oversight and responsibility that I failed to respond promptly and apologize to those who were hurt. Regardless of my intention to make people laugh, I take it very seriously that I ultimately caused pain and discomfort to others.”
She continued, “The Blue Dragon Series Awards was my first official appearance in front of you all since this incident. Although many thoughts crossed my mind as I took the stage, I felt that I was unable to fully convey my feelings at that moment. Although it is late, I am writing this to express my sincere feelings directly.”
Lee Soo-ji said, “As a comedian whose job is to make people laugh, I should have been more careful. I did not fully consider that my acting and content could be perceived as hurtful or offensive to some people,” adding, “I will use this incident as an opportunity to reflect on myself more deeply. With a more cautious attitude and a greater sense of responsibility, I will strive to become a comedian who delivers healthy laughter that many people can relate to. I once again sincerely apologize to everyone who was hurt or disappointed by my shortcomings,” she said, bowing her head.
Previously, Lee Soo-ji released a piece of content on “Hot Issue Ji” titled “Civil Servant Kim Ji-young’s Fight to Keep Her Iron Rice Bowl,” a mock documentary. In the video, Lee Soo-ji appeared as Kim Ji-young, a first-year civil servant, and portrayed her struggling with malicious complaints. However, she faced criticism and controversy for portraying protesters demanding a re-election due to a ballot shortage during the nationwide local elections as “malicious complainants” and trivializing the issue. Although the production team deleted the scene in question, the controversy did not subside, and as it continued to spread, Lee Soo-ji stepped forward to issue a personal apology.
