[Edaily Starin KIM HYUNSIK Reporter] KBS announced on the 3rd that it held an opening ceremony for “AI Production,” a hub specializing in generative AI-based broadcast production.

“AI Production” is a facility established at the KBS Yeouido headquarters to support the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across all aspects of content planning and production. Activities such as △AI content planning, △AI production consulting, △AI production workflow development, △quality control (QC), and △AI production training are scheduled to take place here.
AI technology will be fully utilized in the new epic drama “Munmu,” scheduled to premiere this November. The network plans to apply AI technology to the visualization of large-scale war scenes, the pre-visualization and alternative production of scenes that are difficult or dangerous to film in real life, and the creation of fire scenes.
KBS stated, “We plan to enhance safety on set and improve production efficiency while simultaneously elevating the realism and visual quality of large-scale scenes that were difficult to achieve using traditional production methods.”

Previously, on the 1st of last month, KBS introduced its own AI portal, “Kairos.” The network has established a structure where “Kairos” supports AI services and business applications online, while “AI Production” handles AI video production and technical support offline.
The Announcer Division and the News and Current Affairs Headquarters are also participating in the company-wide push for AI development and utilization. Recently, about 10 KBS announcers agreed to have their voices used to develop and implement “AI voice synthesis technology,” and AI voices with standard Korean pronunciation are scheduled to be utilized in radio news and other programs. KBS stated, “We expect this technology to be widely used in various narration fields in the future.”
The News and Current Affairs Division will begin a pilot program on the 10th to introduce “TTS (Text-to-Speech) Reports,” an AI voice technology, on “News 12.” This technology enables AI to learn the voices of individual reporters and automatically generate broadcast reports in the reporter’s voice. It will be used only when reporters voluntarily register their voices.
At the opening ceremony that day, KBS President Park Jang-beom stated, “‘AI Production’ will serve as a hub of innovation that combines KBS’s creativity with AI technology to produce even more competitive content.” He added, “With ‘Kairos’ and ‘AI Production’ as our two pillars, we will continue to advance our AI-based production environment and emerge as a public broadcaster that leads the AI era.”
