Kakao Games Corp. Reports Operating Loss of 23 Billion Won… “Comprehensive Business Restructuring”

[Edaily Reporter An Yu-ri ] Kakao Games Corp.(293490)announced on the 5th that it recorded consolidated revenue of approximately 75 billion won and an operating loss of approximately 23 billion won for the second quarter of 2026.
Revenue for this quarter, calculated in accordance with Korean International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS), decreased by approximately 35% year-over-year and approximately 10% quarter-over-quarter. The operating loss widened by 167.30% year-over-year but narrowed by 10% quarter-over-quarter.
By business segment, revenue from PC online games totaled approximately 22.3 billion won, an increase of about 51% year-over-year but a decrease of about 20% quarter-over-quarter. Revenue from mobile games totaled approximately 52.7 billion won, a decrease of about 48% year-over-year and about 4% quarter-over-quarter.
Second-quarter results were influenced by factors such as the stabilization of revenue from existing live titles at lower levels and a lack of new releases.
Preparing for the Launch of New Title "The World of Goblins"... "Continuing to Expand Portfolio"
Under its new management structure in the third quarter, Kakao Games Corp. will undertake a comprehensive business reorganization to strengthen the foundation for future sustainable growth. The company will conduct a thorough review of its game projects while focusing its efforts on the launch of core IPs.
First, the company will begin pre-registration for the K-fantasy mobile MMORPG *The World of Goblin* in August and is accelerating final development to launch the game for users in October.
Additionally, the company is making every effort to release the strategic adventure RPG “Dungeon Arise” and the open-world zombie survival simulator “God Save Birmingham” by the end of this year and early next year, respectively, and to launch the highly anticipated MMORPG “Odin Q: Call of the Valkyries” early next year.
In addition, the company plans to continue expanding its game portfolio by securing global distribution rights for the PC MMORPG blockbuster “ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom” and the pixel-art collectible action RPG “Guardian Maiden” in quick succession, as well as by collaborating with Dougrim Entertainment to incorporate well-known manga and webtoon IPs into game development and service.
Meanwhile, Kakao Games Corp. emphasized that it is striving to enhance shareholder value by establishing and implementing mid- to long-term shareholder return measures, starting with the cancellation of 500,000 treasury shares, followed by: △ the introduction of a Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) performance-based compensation system for employees; △ the transfer of retained earnings to the capital reserve to secure funds for shareholder returns; and △ the purchase of treasury shares by management.
