Distributor Plus M Entertainment announced on the 5th, “The film ‘HOPE’ has confirmed releases in various regions around the world, starting with Taiwan on September 4 and North America on September 9, followed by Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Latin America, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, and Singapore.”
“Hope” was pre-sold to over 200 countries and regions worldwide at one of the highest prices ever for a Korean film, and its artistic merit has been recognized through successive contracts with global distributors such as NEON in North America, Focus/UPI in France, and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.
Given that it has been selected by leading global distributors and studios one after another, “Hope” is garnering attention in the global market as a highly anticipated film that combines both artistic merit and commercial potential.
In particular, following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the film has received consistent praise from international critics after they viewed a re-edited version in which certain creature scenes, sound design, and editing were meticulously refined. The film review outlet IndieWire commented, “Through the deletion, addition, and restructuring of scenes, the individual narrative threads connect much more seamlessly, and the flow of the story has become even more natural,” adding, “The re-edited ‘Hope’ is one of the best action films I’ve seen in recent years, from start to finish.”
“Hope” is the first feature film in 10 years from director Na Hong-jin, known for “The Chaser” and “The Yellow Sea,” following “The Wailing.” The story begins when “Beom-seok,” the head of the Hopo Port branch office located in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), hears reports from local youths about a tiger sighting. As the entire village goes on high alert, he is confronted with a reality that defies belief.
The film stars Hwang Jung-min, Jo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender.
