Distributor Plus M Entertainment announced on August 5, “‘HOPE’ has confirmed release dates across the globe, starting with Taiwan on September 4 and North America on September 9, followed by Canada, Australia, the UK, Latin America, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, and Singapore.”
“HOPE” was pre-sold to over 200 countries and territories at record-high prices for a Korean film. The film earned early recognition for its cinematic quality by securing distribution deals with leading global distributors, including NEON in North America, Focus/UPI in France, and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.
With backing from prominent international distributors and studios, “HOPE” is drawing significant attention as one of the most anticipated titles in the global market.
Expectations have risen even further following high praise from international critics who viewed a newly re-edited version. After its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Director Na refined the film’s creature sequences, sound design, and pacing. Film review outlet IndieWire noted, “While the re-edited version is only four to five minutes shorter, omissions, additions, and restructuring provide a better narrative flow between the concurrent storylines,” adding, “The revised ‘HOPE,’ however, played from beginning to end like one of the best action films I’ve seen in years.”
“HOPE” marks Director Na Hong-jin’s first feature film in 10 years since “The Wailing” (2016), following his acclaimed filmography that includes “The Chaser” and “The Yellow Sea.” The story begins in the remote coastal village of Hopohang near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), where local police chief Beom-seok receives a report of a tiger sighting. As the village goes on high alert, residents find themselves confronting an unbelievable reality.
The star-studded ensemble cast features Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender.
