According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 6th, the film “The Martian” drew 291,359 viewers on the 5th, overtaking “Spider-Man: A Brand New Day” (Spider-Man 4) at the box office. Its cumulative audience stands at 293,726.
“Spider-Man 4,” which had held the No. 1 spot at the box office for a week since its release, recorded 273,994 viewers that day. Its cumulative total stands at 448,155.
Third place went to *Love Hachuping: The Legend of the Whale Gem* (*Hachuping 2*), which opened the previous day, demonstrating the strength of domestic animation. *Hachuping 2* drew 73,032 viewers on its opening day, bringing its cumulative total to 100,442.
Director Na Hong-jin’s “Hope” slipped to fourth place. On that day, 29,925 viewers watched “Hope.” “Hope” continues its long-running success, having drawn a cumulative total of 4,265,623 viewers. Fifth place went to Universal Pictures’ “Minions & Monsters.”
Director Tomoaki Fujino’s documentary “What Should I Have Done?” ranked sixth at the box office, drawing significant attention from the Korean public. “What Should I Have Done?” is a deeply personal and shocking documentary by a younger brother that chronicles over 20 years in the life of a family—specifically, parents who locked their older daughter, who exhibits symptoms of schizophrenia, out of the house under the guise of “family.”
“Odyssey” also took first place in advance ticket sales. As of 8:20 a.m. on the 6th, “Odyssey” had recorded 582,619 advance tickets sold. Second place went to “Spider-Man 4” (423,476 tickets), and third place to “Hatchuping 2” (108,248 tickets). Fourth place was “Hope” (31,551 tickets), and fifth place went to “Okay Madam 2,” starring Uhm Jung-hwa (31,012 tickets).
