KTCorporation announced on the 6th that it has expanded its “AI-Based Real-Time Spam Blocking Service” (hereinafter “AI Spam Blocking”) to all customers, including those using mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs). Any KTCorporation customer can use the service free of charge, with no additional fees.

Recently, spam text messages have become increasingly sophisticated, with spammers mixing in special characters or constantly altering patterns to bypass keyword-based blocking. To address these gaps in protection, KTCorporation has independently developed an AI algorithm that detects and blocks even new types of spam in real time.

Developed in January of this year, the AI spam blocking feature underwent a pilot program involving 800,000 customers who had set the “Smart Blocking” level to “High” in the “KTCorporation Spam Blocker” app. After ensuring sufficient service stability, KTCorporation expanded the feature’s coverage to its standard “Spam Blocking Service” starting on the 29th of last month.

The AI spam blocking operates 24 hours a day, including nights and weekends. According to KTCorporation’s monitoring from July 29—immediately following the expansion—through August 3, the false positive rate for spam was only 0.003%, and not a single customer complaint (VOC) was received. In particular, the service demonstrated tangible effectiveness by precisely filtering out spam that the existing system had failed to block, resulting in a 3.5% increase in the total number of spam blocks.

KTCorporation also plans to launch a new “Real-time Spam Blocking Notification Service” later this month. Customers who sign up for this service will receive real-time notifications detailing blocked spam, allowing them to easily check their blocking status.

Choi Se-jun, Senior Vice President and Head of the Customer Strategy Division at KTCorporation’s Customer Division, stated, “The AI spam blocking feature was developed as part of the Customer Protection 365 Task Force’s efforts to protect customers in real time from various types of spam and digital crimes.” He added, “We will continue to update the service to enhance customer trust and further advance our AI-based detection technology to build a prevention-focused customer protection system.”
