Jeong Shin-ah, CEO of Kakao, announced the partnership with Coupang Eats during the Q2 2026 earnings conference call held on the 6th, stating, “Among various verticals, the first to be integrated with Kakao’s Agent AI will be food delivery.”

Kakao plans to integrate Coupang Eats’ service into “Kanana in KakaoTalk” as an Agent AI. The system uses an on-device AI model to identify a user’s intent to order takeout from their conversation and suggests menu items based on their accumulated preferences. Users can complete their order and payment within a KakaoTalk chat room without having to switch to a separate app.

CEO Jeong explained, “Once Coupang Eats is integrated as an agent into Kanaana in KakaoTalk, the on-device Agent AI model will identify the user’s intent to order food delivery within the context of the conversation and suggest menu items based on their accumulated preferences,” adding, “Users will be able to naturally complete their orders and payments right within the chat room.”

Kakao and Coupang Eats are currently discussing specific implementation plans to ensure that AI recommendations lead to actual transactions. Kakao plans to launch the service as soon as possible following these discussions.

Kakao views this collaboration not merely as the addition of a food ordering feature, but as the first example of an Agent AI user experience. This signifies an expansion beyond AI simply answering user questions to a stage where it identifies intent within conversations and performs actual actions on the user’s behalf.

CEO Jeong said, “While it may appear to be simply the addition of a feature to order food via KakaoTalk, it holds significant meaning as the first step toward creating new user habits—where AI connects user intent to actual actions and resolves repetitive, everyday tasks through AI.”

Starting with food delivery, Kakao plans to expand the scope of Agent AI’s application to high-frequency daily life sectors such as commerce, reservations, travel, and payments. The company intends to collaborate directly with major players in each sector to create flagship use cases and build an Agent ecosystem within KakaoTalk that spans from recommendations to transactions.

CEO Jeong emphasized, “The key factor in establishing new AI usage habits will be how effectively we can expand agent actions—which lead from understanding user intent to actual behavior and transactions—across all aspects of daily life, while simultaneously refining our ability to discern user intent.”

Meanwhile, Kakao reported consolidated revenue of 2.0985 trillion won and operating profit of 277 billion won for the second quarter of 2026. These figures represent year-over-year increases of 9% and 36%, respectively, marking record highs for both revenue and operating profit on a quarterly basis. The operating profit margin also improved to the 13% range, up approximately 3 percentage points from the same period last year.

Kakao’s strong second-quarter performance resulted from robust growth in KakaoTalk advertising and commerce, combined with improved profitability in platform businesses such as mobility and kakaopay.
