President Lee’s Approval Rating at 47.7%… ‘Positive Evaluation’ Among Those in Their 20s Drops by 18.8 Percentage Points

According to the results of a public opinion poll conducted on the 3rd and 4th by the polling firm Media Tomato, commissioned by News Tomato, among 1,037 adults aged 18 and older nationwide, 47.7% of respondents gave a positive evaluation of President Lee’s handling of state affairs. Negative evaluations stood at 48.5%, while 3.8% responded “I don’t know.”

Compared to last week’s survey, the approval rating fell by 4.0 percentage points from 51.7% to 47.7%, while the disapproval rating rose by 4.9 percentage points from 43.6% to 48.5%.

By age group, those in their 20s showed 33.9% positive and 59.0% negative ratings. Positive ratings among those in their 20s fell by 18.8 percentage points compared to last week.

Among those in their 30s, positive ratings stood at 36.6% and negative ratings at 61.0%, while those in their 40s recorded positive ratings of 53.2% and negative ratings of 45.7%. Among those in their 50s, 59.3% viewed the administration positively and 38.5% negatively; among those in their 60s, 49.1% viewed it positively and 48.2% negatively; and among those aged 70 and older, 49.5% viewed it positively and 42.5% negatively.

By region, Seoul recorded 45.5% approval and 51.2% disapproval. Daejeon, Chungcheong, and Sejong recorded 39.1% approval and 60.1% disapproval, with the approval rating dropping 10.3 percentage points from last week.

In contrast, in Gwangju and Jeolla, approval stood at 62.2% and disapproval at 37.8%.

By political orientation, negative evaluations were higher among moderates, with 42.9% positive and 49.7% negative. Among conservatives, 22.7% were positive and 75.5% negative, while among progressives, 70.8% were positive and 27.9% negative, showing mixed evaluations by political orientation. However, positive evaluations among progressives fell by 5.7 percentage points compared to last week.

This survey was conducted via ARS (RDD) mobile phone and has a margin of error of ±3.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For further details, please refer to the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission website.
