[Edaily Starin Choi Hee-jae Reporter] Director Lee Chang-dong’s new film, “Possible Love,” has been invited to the Main Slate section of the 64th New York Film Festival.

Following screenings at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival and the 84th Venice Film Festival, the Netflix film “Possible Love” has been officially invited to the Main Slate section of the 64th New York Film Festival, which runs from September 25 to October 12.
Now in its 64th year, the New York Film Festival is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the United States. The Main Slate section, to which *Possible Love* has been invited, showcases bold and original works by world-renowned masters and up-and-coming directors. The festival has previously curated and introduced films that have achieved remarkable success in the global film industry, such as *Parasite*, *Decision to Leave*, and *I Can’t Help It*. With *Possible Love*, Director Lee Chang-dong has achieved the distinction of being invited to the Main Slate section for the fourth time, following *Secret Sunshine*, *Poetry*, and *Burning*.

Dennis Lim, Artistic Director of the New York Film Festival, praised the film, saying, “Director Lee Chang-dong’s films are truly unparalleled in contemporary cinema, thanks to their broad perspective, artistic ambition, elegant narrative structure, and unpredictably multidimensional characters.”
He continued, “‘Possible Love’ is the richest and most expansive work in his filmography, encompassing nearly all the forces that govern our lives—labor, class, capital, art, desire, and family,” adding, “This film looks squarely at the very era in which we live, while also resonating in a way that transcends it.”
“Possible Love” tells the story of two couples—a laid-off worker and his wife, and a documentary director and her husband—who meet to produce a documentary and come face-to-face with each other’s different lives and hidden desires.

The four promotional stills released on the 6th foreshadow the complex and nuanced emotional dynamics and narrative between the four characters: “Mi-ok” (Jeon Do-yeon), “Ho-seok” (Seol Kyung-gu), “Sang-woo” (Jo In-sung), and “Ye-ji” (Jo Yeo-jeong). A still of “Mi-ok,” who is smiling brightly yet appears somewhat melancholic, makes viewers curious about “Mi-ok” as an individual—beyond her role as the wife of a laid-off worker.
The image of “Mi-ok” and her husband “Ho-seok” sitting on a wooden bench in the courtyard and gazing up at the night sky seems to symbolize the couple who have always shared everything together. The scenes of “Mi-ok” facing “Sang-woo” under the light of a streetlamp and “Ye-ji” beneath a tree swaying in the wind leave viewers wondering how these individuals, who have led such different lives, will become entangled.
“Possible Love” has been officially invited to the Competition section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival and the Special Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, earning recognition for its artistic merit.
“Possible Love” will open in theaters in Korea on the 23rd of next month and will be released on Netflix on November 6.
