'Brave New World,' 'True Education,' and 'The Cook' Are Box Office Hits
"Supply Chain Diversification Drives Growth and Profitability"
"We Will Continue to Seek Ways to Optimize Production Costs"
[Edaily Starin, Reporter Gim Ga Yeong ] Studio Dragon announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2026.
Studio Dragon’s revenue for the second quarter of this year rose 26.9% year-over-year to 145.3 billion won, and the company returned to profitability with an operating profit of 15.4 billion won. Studio Dragon analyzed that “diversifying our supply chain to include numerous broadcasters and online video services (OTT) such as tvN, SBS, MBC, TVING, Netflix, and Disney+ drove both revenue growth and profitability.” The number of TV and OTT episodes aired in the second quarter totaled 77, an increase of 36 episodes compared to the same period last year, with content sales revenue rising 37.3% year-over-year to 126.9 billion won. The operating profit margin for this quarter was 10.6%, marking a return to double-digit margins following the fourth quarter of 2025 (12.7%). In the second quarter of this year, Studio Dragon expanded its distribution network for its productions to include not only its own platforms but also external ones, premiering “Secret Gratitude” on tvN, “Yumi’s Cells Season 3” and “The Legend of the Cook” on TVING, “Brave New World” on SBS, “Fifty Percent” on MBC, and “Goldland” on Disney+. G-Tist, a subsidiary of Studio Dragon, also supplied “True Education” and “The Boy in the Back Row” to Netflix. In addition to expanding its distribution network and production volume, the company achieved remarkable success in terms of the popularity of its shows. tvN’s *Secret Gratitude* and SBS’s *Brave New World* both recorded double-digit peak viewership ratings exceeding 10%, securing their places among the most talked-about dramas of the first half of the year. TVING’s *Yumi’s Cells Season 3* attracted 226% more paid TVING subscribers than Season 1 and 73% more than Season 2. “The Legend of the Mess Sergeant” attracted the most paid subscribers within a week of its release among all series released on TVING over the past three years, while “True Education” ranked among the top three global hits on Netflix in the first half of this year, recording 510 million cumulative viewing hours among all content available worldwide. A Studio Dragon representative stated, “The first half of this year was a period in which we demonstrated our production capabilities by churning out hit after hit on TV and OTT platforms—from ‘Undercover Miss Hong’ ' and 'My Beloved Thief,' which aired in the first quarter, we produced a string of hit shows on both TV and OTT, proving our production capabilities," the representative explained. "We are accelerating efforts to enhance our IP business and optimize production costs—not only to expand our domestic and international distribution networks and improve the success rate of our dramas but also to overcome the overall slump in the drama industry. We plan to continuously pursue production cost efficiency by expanding our commerce business based on our proprietary IP and improving production processes, such as increasing the use of AI.” Meanwhile, Studio Dragon, a subsidiary of CJ ENM, is South Korea’s largest content production company. It holds 278 intellectual property (IP) titles that have been hits both domestically and internationally, including *The Queen of Tears*, *Crash Landing on You*, *Mr. Sunshine*, and *Goblin*. Currently airing tvN’s *My Favorite Employee* in the second half of this year, the company also plans to release *Four Hands*, *100 Days of Lies*, *Gift*, Netflix’s *Slowly but Surely*, and SBS’s *Doctor X: The Age of the White Mafia* in succession.
