[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] The trend toward “carbon neutrality” is sweeping through performance venues as well. This comes as efforts to replace diesel generators—commonly used in performance production settings—with eco-friendly energy storage systems (ESS) are gaining momentum.

Sound Alliance, a company specializing in concert and festival production and performance technology, and Ion Earth, a provider of mobile ESS solutions, announced on the 5th that they had signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish an eco-friendly performance model.
The core of this agreement lies in transforming the way power is managed at performance venues. The two companies plan to apply IonEarth’s mobile ESS to concerts and festivals produced by Sound Alliance, thereby gradually reducing the use of conventional diesel generators. Through this initiative, they aim not only to reduce carbon emissions, noise, and fine dust but also to establish an ESG-based performance production model.
The two companies will jointly plan eco-friendly performance content and ESG campaigns, and plan to expand the scope of their collaboration to include cultural content sectors such as exhibitions and media art in the future.
Industry observers in the performing arts sector view this collaboration as an attempt to transform the very nature of performance production, going beyond the mere adoption of technology. This is because performance venues, which require large amounts of power, have traditionally relied heavily on diesel generators; however, utilizing mobile ESS systems enables more eco-friendly operations.
Since its establishment in 2018, Sound Alliance has grown into a comprehensive performance company encompassing performance production, sound, video, design, and music production. Through collaborations with HYBE, JYP Entertainment, CJ ENM, and others, it has handled the production and technical operations for K-pop concerts, performances by international artists visiting Korea, musicals, and large-scale festivals.
It is also ramping up its eco-friendly performance projects. Sound Alliance will serve as the organizer of the “Sustainable Wave Festival 2026,” a carbon-neutral music festival set to take place on the 29th and 30th at Incheon Munhak Stadium. Featuring acts such as god, Epik High, and Highlight, this event is expected to be the first instance of applying an eco-friendly performance model in a real-world setting.
IonEarth has been supplying eco-friendly power solutions to local festivals, construction sites, and disaster response sites using its mobile ESS, “Indego.” The company has independently developed battery packs, power conversion systems (PCS), and energy management systems (EMS), and is expanding its business by highlighting its ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 73% compared to diesel generators. Recently, the company has been expanding its scope of application beyond industrial sites to include the public and aviation sectors, and plans to make a full-scale entry into the performance and cultural content industries following this agreement.
Overseas, eco-friendly performances have already established themselves as a new trend. The “Massive Attack – Act 1.5” concert held in Bristol, UK, garnered significant attention for reducing carbon emissions by approximately 98%, and France’s “We Love Green” festival also promotes sustainability as a core value. The industry expects this collaboration to serve as a catalyst for spreading eco-friendly performance models within the domestic performance industry as well.
