Foreign Investors Make Net Purchases of 313.8 Billion Won; Retail Investors Take Profits
Inflow of bargain-hunting buying recoups some of the previous day’s sharp decline
[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-il ] The domestic stock market opened higher just one day after the previous decline. Although New York stock markets fell across the board overnight, the KOSPI and KOSDAQ are both rising as bargain-hunting flows in following the previous day’s sharp drop. The securities industry believes that investor sentiment will gradually stabilize, as the previous day’s plunge in semiconductor stocks was largely driven by short-term profit-taking.

By market capitalization, large-cap stocks (0.3%), mid-cap stocks (0.06%), and small-cap stocks (0.64%) are all rising, indicating that buying momentum is spreading across the broader market.
Overnight, all three major U.S. stock indices fell. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.85%, ending its five-day winning streak, while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite also fell by 0.18% and 0.06%, respectively. Amid slight increases in oil prices and market interest rates, the weakness in semiconductor stocks such as SanDisk and Western Digital is believed to have dampened investor sentiment.
However, the securities industry views the previous day’s sharp decline in the domestic stock market as the result of a combination of SanDisk’s disappointing guidance and short-term profit-taking. Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, said, “We believe the sharp decline yesterday was largely due to a correction following the recent sharp rally and the aftermath of profit-taking,” adding, “Today, the market is expected to attempt a rebound, supported by the fact that the weakness in U.S. semiconductor stocks has already been factored in and by bargain-hunting following yesterday’s sharp decline.”
