UNISON CO., LTD.: "Expects to Benefit from New Domestic Production Tax Credit… Strengthening Competitiveness of Domestic Wind Turbines"

[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] Wind turbine specialist UNISON CO., LTD.(018000)announced on the 7th that its growth prospects are expected to expand due to the introduction of a domestic production tax credit—included in the government’s “2026 Tax Reform Plan”—and improvements to the wind turbine certification system.

The tax reform plan recently announced by the government includes a domestic production tax credit system that provides income tax or corporate tax credits based on production volume for eligible wind power products manufactured and sold domestically after undergoing key manufacturing processes. The company explained that this approach—which supports actual production performance rather than just research and development (R&D) or facility investments—is expected to help strengthen the price competitiveness of domestic wind turbine manufacturers.

The credit amount is calculated based on the production volume of eligible items and the standard credit amount per item, with a multiplier of 1.0 to 1.5 times the standard credit amount applied depending on the production region. According to the government’s proposal, the program will remain in effect until December 31, 2036. Specific eligible items, core process requirements, and credit amounts per item are scheduled to be finalized via a future presidential decree.

UNISON CO., LTD. directly develops, manufactures, and supplies wind turbines based on its domestic production facilities, and the company anticipates that it will be eligible for tax credit benefits based on its domestic production and sales volumes once the detailed criteria are established.

The company also anticipates that improvements to the wind turbine certification system will have a positive impact on strengthening its business competitiveness. The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has revised the KS certification system to allow for the independent certification of rotor-nacelle assemblies (RNA), which are core components of medium- and large-scale wind turbines.

Consequently, wind turbines using the same RNA can now utilize existing certification results even if tower heights or certain specifications differ by project. The company expects this to reduce the time and costs associated with repetitive evaluations and reviews, while also allowing for greater flexibility in supplying products tailored to the conditions of each power generation complex.

UNISON CO., LTD. stated, “Tax incentives linked to production volume and improvements to the certification system will lower the production and supply costs of domestically manufactured wind turbines, thereby enhancing their price competitiveness,” adding, “We will actively respond to the expanding renewable energy market and national electricity demand by increasing production efficiency and supply capacity, centered on our domestic production bases.”
