[Edaily Reporter KIM JUNG YOU ] Foreign media reported that SK hynix(000660)is considering a plan to sell its stake in a semiconductor back-end (packaging) plant in Chongqing, China. According to a Bloomberg report on the 7th (local time), SK hynix is reportedly discussing various options with advisory firms regarding the sale of its Chongqing packaging plant.
Bloomberg reported that if the sale proceeds, the value of the stake could reach approximately $3 billion (about 4 trillion Hanwha won). The outlet noted that potential buyers for the Chongqing plant include Chinese funds and Chinese semiconductor companies, and that SK hynix may retain a minority stake.
However, Bloomberg reported, citing local sources, that these discussions are still in the early stages and may not materialize. Bloomberg added that SK hynix declined to confirm the report.
Meanwhile, SK hynix’s Chongqing plant, which began mass production in July 2014, is one of the company’s Chinese bases responsible for NAND flash packaging and other operations.
