[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-il ] The KOSDAQ index surged by the high 6% range, breaking through the 850-point mark. While major semiconductor stocks took a breather, buying momentum spread to biotech, semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment, rechargeable batteries, and robotics. Strong buying pressure swept across the KOSDAQ market, triggering the third “buy-side sidecar” this month.

According to MP Doctor on the 10th, the KOSDAQ closed at 854.47, up 55.66 points (6.97%) from the previous trading day. There were 1,431 gainers, accounting for over 80% of all listed stocks, and 11 stocks hit their daily upper price limit. At 9:50 a.m. that day, the KOSDAQ 150 futures and the index remained up 6.05% and 6.25%, respectively, for over one minute, triggering the “buy-side sidecar”—a mechanism that suspends the effectiveness of buy orders in program trading for five minutes. This marks the third time in the last six trading days, following the 3rd and 4th.

The difference in supply and demand between the KOSDAQ and KOSPI markets was also striking. On the KOSDAQ, foreign investors and institutions recorded net purchases of 103.1 billion won and 566.1 billion won, respectively, while retail investors recorded net sales of 672.9 billion won. In contrast, on the KOSPI, foreign investors recorded net sales of 1.4905 trillion won. On the KOSPI, large-cap stocks rose 0.53%, while mid-cap and small-cap stocks rose 1.91% and 2.23%, respectively.

On the KOSDAQ, the biotech, semiconductor materials and components, rechargeable battery, and robotics sectors all showed strength. Alteogen Inc.(196170)soared 14.1%, and JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930)(13.3%), WONIK IPS Co.,Ltd.(240810)(11.44%), HLB INC.(028300)(9.11%), ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520)(8.72%), ABL Bio Inc.(298380)(8.08%), LEENO Industrial Inc(058470)(7.61%), ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540)(7.29%), and Rainbow Robotics(277810)(5.16%) also rose. By sector, non-metals (11.56%), general services (10.26%), machinery and equipment (7.96%), and electrical and electronics (7.95%) also saw significant gains.

Lee Kyung-min, an analyst at DaishinSecurities, noted, “As large-cap semiconductor stocks took a breather, rotational trading spread, and the KOSDAQ’s outperformance was evident.” He added, “While large-cap semiconductor stocks paused, rotational trading expanded into industrial goods such as defense and shipbuilding, and on the KOSDAQ, semiconductor materials and components, as well as pharmaceuticals and biotech, showed particularly strong gains.”

The sectors driving the KOSDAQ rally were not concentrated in any single area. Lim Jeong-eun, an analyst at KB Securities, stated, “Led by Alteogen Inc., sectors such as biotech, secondary batteries, and robotics drove the KOSDAQ market evenly, and semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment also showed strength,” adding, “In particular, expectations of benefits for related materials, parts, and equipment spread following SK hynix’s announcement of investments in its Yongin Phase 2 fab and Cheongju M17 production facilities.”

Analysts also noted that the recent stock price correction in the semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment sector was excessive. Kim Rok-ho, an analyst at Hana Securities, commented on the recent stock price correction among domestic memory companies, stating, “Given the unprecedented magnitude of the decline, we believe the bottom has been reached.” He also offered a positive assessment of materials, parts, and equipment companies—which had underperformed relative to the KOSDAQ rebound—noting that the stock prices of global front-end equipment manufacturers remain robust and their valuations are holding at high levels.
