According to Netflix’s official site, Tudum, on the 12th, “Such a Shitty Love” ranked 5th globally in the non-English TV shows category, recording 3.2 million views (views divided by the show’s total runtime) and 37.9 million viewing hours. It ranked in the top 10 in 44 countries, including Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Portugal, Greece, and Nigeria. tvN’s “Creepy Romance” came in third. “Creepy Romance” recorded 3.3 million viewers and 27.4 million viewing hours. First place went to the Mexican series “My Daughter’s Man.” It had 3.7 million viewers and 26.8 million viewing hours. Meanwhile, Ha Young, the female lead of “Such a Shitty Love,” is facing criticism following allegations that her great-grandfather, Ahn Sang-ho, collaborated with the Japanese during the colonial era. Ha Young recently appeared on the KBS2 show “The Problem Children of the Attic” and revealed that her family has been in the medical profession for four generations; however, details of her great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho’s pro-Japanese activities have only recently come to light. Ahn Sang-ho studied Western medicine in Tokyo, Japan, and became the first Korean to open a Western-style hospital; he also treated members of the royal family. However, according to an article published in the Maeil Shinbo in 1918, Ahn Sang-ho stated upon marrying a Japanese woman, “I am just like a Japanese person. I don’t own a single set of traditional Korean clothing, and I can’t eat spicy food at all,” and suspicions of pro-Japanese activities arose after it was revealed that he was a member of the Taisei Friendship Society. A representative from Ha Young’s agency, Busters Entertainment, stated, “We have confirmed that records do indeed exist showing that her great-grandfather, Mr. Ahn Sang-ho, was listed as a council member of the Daijeong Friendship Society in 1916,” adding, “Through this incident, we have deeply realized how careful verification is required when conveying historical facts and an individual’s background to the public. Actress Ha Young also deeply regrets the concern this matter has caused and apologizes, pledging to approach her work with a more cautious and humble attitude moving forward.” In the wake of this, Ha Young canceled her interview for the recently released Netflix series *Such a Shitty Love*, and her co-star, Jung Hae-in, also canceled his interview entirely.
