MIRAE ASSET SECURITIES announced on the 12th that it earned a consolidated net profit of 1.9052 trillion won in the second quarter. Having already set an industry first by recording a “quarterly net profit of 1 trillion won” in the first quarter, the company built on that success by surpassing the 1 trillion won mark again in the second quarter. This figure is twice that of Korea Investment & Securities (946.4 billion won), the second-largest firm in the securities industry. Cumulative net profit for the first half of the year reached 2.9072 trillion won, a 338% increase year-over-year.
MIRAE ASSET SECURITIES’ performance is on par with that of KB Financial Group(105560)(1.9922 trillion won), which was the first to announce its second-quarter results, and has surpassed major financial institutions such as Shinhan Financial Group (1.8201 trillion won), Hana Financial Group (1.1928 trillion won), Woori Financial Group (1.0046 trillion won), and Nonghyup Financial Group (910.4 billion won). Amid a historic bull market—marked by the KOSPI index breaking through the 9,000 mark in the first half of this year—it is a monumental achievement for a securities firm to have surpassed the net profits of financial holding companies by capitalizing on a surge in trading volume and maximizing revenue from asset management fees.
MIRAE ASSET SECURITIES explained that its foundation for generating recurring profits has been further strengthened as stable profit growth continued across its core businesses: △ Wealth Management (WM) and Pensions, △ Brokerage, and △ Trading.
First, the domestic business continued to show robust growth, driven by an expansion in client assets and increased trading activity, particularly in the brokerage and WM segments. Second-quarter brokerage commission revenue reached 625.6 billion won, a 36% increase from the previous quarter, while commission revenue from financial product sales also hit 131.0 billion won, surpassing the first quarter’s 112.5 billion won to set a new all-time high. Total domestic and international assets under management (AUM) reached 784 trillion won, an increase of 124 trillion won compared to the first quarter.
Pension assets also continued to expand steadily, surpassing 80 trillion won as of the end of June. Over the past year, the growth rate of retirement pension reserves exceeded 60%, reaching approximately 2.5 times the market average. Recently, the company launched the “Retirement Pension Robo-WRAP Service”—which handles everything from portfolio construction to actual trading—through IRP (Individual Retirement Pension) accounts, further enhancing its customized asset management solutions.
Overseas subsidiaries achieved unprecedented results, driven by growth in operating income and valuation gains on investment assets. Second-quarter pre-tax profit totaled approximately 609.1 billion won, with major overseas hubs—including the U.S. (37%), Hong Kong (35%), London (18%), and India (5%)—delivering balanced performance. The contribution of overseas subsidiaries to consolidated pre-tax profit was approximately 24%, an increase of 6 percentage points from the previous quarter. Trading and other financial gains rose 107% quarter-over-quarter to 836.9 billion won, while investment banking (IB) fee revenue increased 65% to 42.8 billion won.
Furthermore, MIRAE ASSET SECURITIES is expanding its next-generation wealth management ecosystem centered on a global investment platform. In June, the company launched MAPS, a global investment platform encompassing both traditional and digital assets, in Hong Kong. It plans to gradually expand the service to major markets such as the U.S. and Singapore. The company is also working to establish an inbound distribution platform that allows global investors to invest directly in Korean stocks and Mirae Asset ETFs.
In the digital finance sector, the company is preparing the necessary infrastructure in line with the institutionalization of STOs and plans to expand its digital finance ecosystem—including RWA tokenization and tokenized securities—based on synergies with Digital X (formerly Kobit).
Meanwhile, MIRAE ASSET SECURITIES’ second-quarter pre-tax profit on a consolidated basis reached 2.5287 trillion won, an 86% increase from the previous quarter. As of the end of the second quarter, shareholders’ equity stood at 16.2 trillion won, and the annualized return on equity (ROE) for the first half of the year reached 39.5%. Cumulative pre-tax profit for the first half of the year was 3.8863 trillion won, a 349% increase from the previous year.
