“Gangshi: Workshop of Horror” is an extreme survival story about employees of Dongbang Savings Bank who travel to a remote island for a workshop during the Golden Week holiday and inadvertently unseal a Gangshi that has been dormant for 400 years. Combining relatable office worker characters—who find themselves in a situation where they must literally risk their lives for the company—with outlandish exorcism action, the film heralds the birth of a new “K-Ghoul” genre and promises to deliver both spine-chilling laughs and heart-pounding thrills.
There is also great anticipation for the cast of actors who have joined as the “Five Fools of Dongbang,” the group responsible for awakening the 400-year-old Jiangshi. Actor Ahn Jae-hong, who has showcased his overwhelming ability to embody diverse characters in every project—from *The King of Jokgu* and *Reply 1988* to *Melo Is My Type*, *Mask Girl*, and *High Five*—plays “Mudo-seong,” the youngest employee at Dongbang Savings Bank’s Manggeum-dong branch and a former taekwondo athlete hired through a special recruitment program.
Yoon Kyung-ho, currently at the height of his popularity thanks to a string of hits like *Zombie Daughter*, *The Legend of the Mess Sergeant*, and *Manager Kim*, as well as his unique wit that has conquered variety shows, takes on the role of “Ma Pa-dong,” a perennial assistant manager who doesn’t shy away from dirty work, offering a poignant glimpse into the struggles of a working-class employee.
Actress Lee Da-hee, who has captivated audiences with her unique presence and “girl crush” charm in shows like *Search: WWW*, *Beauty Inside*, and *I Can Hear Your Voice*, has been cast as Team Leader “Jeong Ji-seon,” a versatile talent with impressive credentials and professional skills.
Kim Ji-eun, who has established herself as a rising star through roles in *Black Sun*, *The 1,000-Won Lawyer*, and *My Mom’s Friend’s Son*, joins the cast as Assistant Manager “Yang Song-i,” who, like “Non-Toxic,” was hired through a special Taekwondo recruitment program and works in the headquarters’ secretarial office.
Lee Hak-joo, who made a strong impression with his intense performances oscillating between good and evil in shows like *The World of the Married*, *My Name*, and *City of Spies*, has been cast as Executive Vice President “Kim Soo,” the sole heir to the incompetent and lackluster Dongbang Savings Bank, promising to steal the show. Meanwhile, seasoned actors with solid acting chops—including Go Chang-seok as “Manager Go,” who leads the Manggeum-dong branch; Kim Hak-cheol as “Chairman Kim” of Dongbang Savings Bank; and Kang Ae-sim as “Shaman Yeom,” the guardian of “Gangryeongdo”—have joined the cast to lend strength to the production.
“Gangshi: Workshop of Horror” is directed by Woo Moon-ki, who previously helmed “The King of Jokgu” (2014) and “Round and Round and Round” (2016). Director Woo reunites with Ahn Jae-hong for the second time following “The King of Jokgu.”
