(Photo: Big Hit Music)According to the latest Oricon charts released on the 12th, BTS’s fifth studio album “ARIRANG” has reached a cumulative total of 1 million points in the combined album ranking, which includes physical album sales, digital downloads, and streaming sales. With this achievement, BTS now has a total of three albums that have surpassed 1 million points on the Oricon charts, following their Japanese best-of album “BTS, THE BEST” and their fourth Japanese studio album “MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 ~ THE JOURNEY ~.” BTS has become the third artist in history—following popular local groups Snowman and the band Mrs. Green Apple—to have three albums that have surpassed 1 million points. They are the first foreign artist to achieve this feat. They also set a new record on Billboard Japan. On the same day, Billboard Japan announced that the cumulative streams for BTS’s 2020 digital single “Dynamite” had surpassed 1 billion. This figure is based on the combined data from major Japanese music platforms such as Amazon Music, Spotify, and LINE Music, as well as YouTube Music views provided by Lumineate. “Dynamite” is the first song by an international artist to surpass 1 billion cumulative streams. “Dynamite” received a tremendous response in Japan, reaching No. 2 on the 2021 Billboard Japan Hot 100 Year-End Chart. Meanwhile, “Arirang” took first place in both the “Album Ranking” and “Combined Album Ranking” categories of Oricon’s “First-Half Rankings,” released last June. Based on the “First Half Rankings,” this marks the first time in 22 years—since the legendary rock band Queen’s compilation album *Jewels* in 2004—that an album by an international artist has sold over 700,000 copies.
