KTCorporation announced on the 13th that it signed an “Official Sponsorship Agreement for the Information and Communications Sector” with the 2027 Chungcheong Universiade Organizing Committee at the Gwanghwamun Building West in Seoul.
Key officials attended the signing ceremony, including Kim Bong-kyun, Head of KTCorporation’s Enterprise Division (Executive Vice President); Lee Jeong-woo, Secretary General of the 2027 Chungcheong Universiade Organizing Committee; and Kim WOOSUNG, CEO of IT Sencloit.
The 2027 Chungcheong Universiade is a global multi-sport event jointly hosted by the four cities and provinces of the Chungcheong region: Daejeon, Sejong, North Chungcheong, and South Chungcheong. It will take place from August 1 to 12 next year, with approximately 15,000 athletes and officials from over 150 countries around the world participating.
Previously, KTCorporation formed a consortium with IT Sencloit last year and was selected as the contractor to build the event’s information and communications infrastructure and the integrated management system. Through this sponsorship agreement, the KTCorporation consortium will participate as the official sponsor in the information and communications sector and will be responsible for the overall IT infrastructure to ensure the successful operation of the event.
Key support areas include: △ the development and operation of the integrated management system for the Games; △ the provision of wired and wireless communications and cloud services; △ the operation of the integrated control center; and △ technical support for competition venues.
Leveraging its expertise in nationwide network operations, KTCorporation plans to deploy high-quality communications infrastructure at approximately 50 locations, including competition venues, training facilities, the opening and closing ceremony venues, and key operational facilities. In particular, the company will strictly segregate the tournament network, operational network, internet network, and broadcast transmission network according to their specific purposes and implement redundant transmission networks to minimize the risk of outages.
In addition, KT will establish an Integrated Control Center capable of real-time monitoring to ensure a system capable of responding swiftly to emergencies. To enhance convenience for participants and visitors, KT will introduce an AI-based call center and multilingual consultation services, providing personalized information ranging from event guidance to transportation and tourism details.
KTCorporation possesses extensive experience in building infrastructure as the official telecommunications provider for major international sporting events in Korea, including the 1997 Muju-Jeonju Universiade, the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, and the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. The company plans to combine this experience in managing large-scale international events with its cutting-edge AX (AI Transformation) technology capabilities to deliver differentiated telecommunications and IT services.
Kim Bong-kyun, Head of KTCorporation’s Enterprise Division (Executive Vice President), stated, “It is deeply meaningful for us to participate as the official ICT sponsor of the 2027 Chungcheong Universiade.” He added, “As South Korea’s leading telecommunications company, KTCorporation will leverage its accumulated expertise in networks, AI, and cloud computing to provide a reliable event environment for both athletes and spectators, and we will fulfill our responsibilities to the very end to ensure the event’s success.”
