[Edaily Starin KIM HYUNSIK Reporter] KBS announced on the 13th that it will hold a Programming Committee meeting on the afternoon of the 14th.

The Programming Committee is a statutory body newly established under the revised Broadcasting Act, which took effect on August 26 of last year. It consists of five members representing the broadcaster and five members representing employees.
The Programming Committee handles agenda items such as: △ matters concerning the enactment, amendment, and publication of broadcasting programming regulations; △ matters concerning broadcasters’ compliance with broadcasting programming regulations; △ matters concerning the guarantee of independence and autonomy in reporting, news coverage, production, and programming; and △ the recommendation of board members.
Previously, on the 23rd of last month, the employees’ representatives finalized the selection of five employee representatives and requested that the company convene the Programming Committee.
KBS explained, “At the extraordinary board meeting held on the 12th, the importance of convening the Programming Committee was emphasized, so we proposed a schedule for the meeting to the employee representatives, and they accepted it.”
On February 24, KBS appointed five members to represent management: Executive Vice President Kim Woo-sung, Head of Strategic Planning Kim Geun-soo, Head of the Content Strategy Division Choi Seong-min, Head of the News and Current Affairs Division Kim Dae-hong, and Labor-Management Cooperation Coordinator Lee Jeon-taek. Subsequently, KBS appointed three replacement members this month and has been preparing to convene the Programming Committee.
KBS stated, “We plan to operate the Programming Committee in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, while respecting the related procedures and the court’s ruling.”
