Actor Byun Yo-han drew laughter at a press conference for the film “Gyeongju Journey,” held on the 13th at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Songpa-gu, Seoul, when asked about his character’s likeness to himself. He replied, “If I ever met someone like that, I’d kill them.” He added, “I don’t think such a person should exist in this world, the universe, or anywhere living beings exist.”
“Gyeongju Journey” is a family revenge drama about four women—a mother and her three daughters—who, after eight years of waiting, embark on a “deadly” journey for their youngest daughter, “Gyeongju,” who never returned from her school field trip.
Byeon Yo-han played the role of Baek Sang-hyun, known as “that guy,” in the film. Byeon prepared a radical visual transformation, ranging from a mouthguard that discolored his teeth to a shaggy beard. He shared a behind-the-scenes story, saying, “The director told me, ‘I want Byeon Yo-han to completely shed his good looks.’”

Director Kim also added, “I was shocked by how handsome he was when I first met him,” and continued, “We made the decision after discussing it with Byun Yo-han. He was very proactive in offering his opinions, which allowed us to pull off this radical transformation.”
Byeon Yo-han, looking at the four women, drew laughter by saying, “I’m not a daughter, but I’d like to say something.” He added, “Senior actress Gong Hyo-jin helped create a comfortable atmosphere on set. Both on and off camera, she consistently acted as the eldest daughter.”
He continued, “I think actress Park So-dam did an excellent job portraying the strongest second daughter without making a big show of it. Lee Yeon seems tough on the outside but is actually the most delicate—she played a character who knows this but pretends not to, someone who dares not act like the youngest daughter,” and he praised them highly, saying, “The ensemble of the four of them was fantastic.”
Lee Jung-eun took on the role of “Ok-sil,” the mother who intensely portrays the grief and anger of losing her daughter. Gong Hyo-jin played Jang-ju, the eldest daughter for whom family always comes first; Park So-dam played Young-ju, the strategic “brain” of the family who acts with meticulous calculation; and Lee Yeon played Dong-ju, the impulsive third daughter who throws herself into situations without hesitation.
“Gyeongju Journey” opens on the 26th.
