[Edaily Reporter PARK MIN ] SK hynix(000660)is surging by over 6% in early trading on the 14th. This is believed to be driven by an improved macroeconomic environment, as inflation fears eased overnight on the New York Stock Exchange, leading semiconductor and big tech stocks to close higher.
According to MP Doctor, as of 9:06 a.m. today, SK hynix is up 6.09% at 1.69 million won, leading the rally in semiconductor stocks. SamsungElectronics(005930)is trading at 273,750 won, up 2.15% from the previous trading day, while SamsungElectronics(1P) is up 3.25% at 193,900 won.
The upward trend also continued for conglomerate stocks and electrical and electronics stocks. SKSQUARE(402340)is trading at 1,161,000 won, up 3.94%, while SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)is trading at 1,575,000 won, up 4.79%. Samsung Life Insurance(032830)is currently trading at 303,000 won, up 3.95%.
Today’s strength in semiconductor stocks is attributed to an improving macroeconomic environment, following signals overnight from the New York stock market that inflationary pressures are easing—a development that drove all three major indices, including the Dow (+0.13%), the S&P 500 (+0.65%), and the Nasdaq (+0.81%), to rise in unison.
On the New York Stock Exchange, following the release of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) the previous day, the Producer Price Index (PPI) also confirmed signs of easing inflation, fueling growing expectations that the Federal Reserve (Fed) will keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged next month.
In particular, semiconductor and big tech stocks showed notable strength. SanDisk (13.7%) led the semiconductor rally after announcing an increase in long-term supply contracts driven by robust demand for AI infrastructure, while Micron Technology rose 4.2% and SK hynix ADRs gained 7.29%.
Large-cap tech stocks also generally performed well. Tesla (+3.80%), Meta (+2.78%), Apple (+1.00%), Microsoft (+0.90%), and Alphabet (+0.82%) all rose.
Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, predicted, “Despite profit-taking following recent consecutive sharp rallies and a wait-and-see attitude ahead of the holiday, the domestic stock market is expected to maintain an upward trend, buoyed by relief over the U.S. July PPI and positive news from SanDisk.”
