[Edaily Reporter Kong Chi-Yu ] Taiwanese authorities have revised their economic growth forecast for this year upward from the 9% range to double digits. This adjustment is based on the assessment that global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) will remain strong going forward. A view of the TSMC Innovation Museum in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. (Photo: ReporterKong Chi-Yu ) According to the Taiwan Economic Daily and other sources, Taiwan’s statistics authority, the Directorate General of Statistics, projected in its latest economic outlook released on the 14th that this year’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate will reach 11.05%. This figure is 1.41 percentage points higher than the forecast released last May (9.64%).
If this forecast materializes, Taiwan’s economic growth rate will reach its highest level since 1988. Taiwanese authorities explained that exports, private consumption, and private investment are all performing strongly as demand for the development of global AI infrastructure remains robust.
Previously, Taiwan recorded a high annual economic growth rate of 8.76% last year. If it reaches 11.05% this year, that would represent an increase of more than 2 percentage points. The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics (DGBAS) had initially forecast this year’s economic growth rate at 7.71% in February, revised it upward once in May, and has now raised the forecast again.
Authorities projected economic growth for the second half of this year at 8.27% and forecast next year’s annual growth rate at 6.04%. However, they cited the situation in the Middle East, energy prices, U.S. tariff policies, and whether global companies will expand their AI-related investments as key sources of uncertainty.
