[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] If you’ve already seen director Christopher Nolan’s *The Odyssey* and *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, which dominated the box office this summer, why not turn your attention to something a little different this weekend? Instead of the massive scale of Hollywood blockbusters, refreshing comic-book action and family-friendly animated films await audiences.

First up is “Okay Madam 2,” which opened on the 12th. It’s the sequel released six years after the original “Okay Madam” debuted in 2020. This time, the setting has shifted from an airplane to a luxury cruise ship. It’s a comedy-action film in which Mi-young (Uhm Jung-hwa), the owner of a pretzel shop facing closure, encounters an international crime syndicate while on a cruise vacation with her family.
A key highlight is Uhm Jung-hwa’s action sequences, which have been ramped up. The film offers a diverse range of scenes, from hand-to-hand combat and shootouts to chase sequences that take place throughout the cruise ship. In particular, the showdown between Uhm Jung-hwa and Choi Soo-young—who joins the cast as Anya, the leader of the criminal organization—is a must-see. The cast, which includes returning members from the first film such as Park Sung-woong, Lee Sang-yoon, and Bae Jung-nam, is joined by newcomers Park Jin-joo and Ryu Woon, filling the film with comedy and action. The film is also being screened in special theater formats such as ScreenX, 4DX, and Dolby Atmos, allowing audiences to enjoy the cruise-based action even more vividly.

For families visiting the theater with children, there’s “Love Hachuping: The Legend of the Whale Gem” (“Love Hachuping 2”). As the second theatrical installment of the “Love Hachuping” series, this time Romi and Hachuping’s adventure takes them out to sea.
Romi, who has become best friends with Hachuping, clashes with her mother, Belita, over what she wants to do versus what she has to do. Then, her mother suddenly disappears into the ocean, and Romi sets out to find her alongside Hachuping, the ocean boy Kite, and a new group of Tinipings. A dazzling underwater city and giant deep-sea creatures offer a fresh take on the marine world, different from the previous film.
A key aspect to watch for in this installment is the mother-daughter relationship. While the first film focused on Romi and Hachuping’s meeting and friendship, this second film places the love between mother and daughter at the center of the story. The journey through which Romi—who never got the chance to apologize to her mother—discovers her mother’s secrets and love through this adventure is aimed not only at children but also at the parents accompanying them to the theater.
If you’ve already seen “Spider-Man” with its massive screen and spectacular special effects, or “The Odyssey” with its overwhelming scale captured by IMAX cameras, your options for this weekend are a bit lighter. If you want to enjoy some action and have a good laugh, go for “Okay Madam 2”; if you’re looking for a movie to laugh and cry over with your child, “Love Hachuping: The Legend of the Whale Jewel” is the one to see.
