The episode of KBS2’s “Men Who Do Housework Season 2” that aired on the 15th featured Park Seo-jin and his younger sister Park Hyo-jeong visiting sites in Seoul related to the independence movement alongside historical storyteller Sun Kim.
Starting at Tapgol Park, they ran a total of 8.15 km, passing through Seodaemun Prison on their way to the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall. Park Seo-jin, who is preparing to compete in a marathon this fall, demonstrated his improved running skills while also listening intently to the history behind each location.
At Seodaemun Prison, in particular, she could not hide her somber expression as she listened to explanations about the hardships endured by independence activists and the atrocities committed by the Japanese colonial regime at the time. At the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall, their final stop, she reflected on the significance of Liberation Day while learning about the life of Baekbeom Kim Gu—whose 150th birthday was being commemorated—and the stories behind his “Baekbeom Diary.”
After completing the run, she expressed her “gratitude” in a more tangible way. Park Seo-jin visited a restaurant run by the descendants of national meritorious figures and challenged herself to order 815,000 won worth of food—a figure inspired by the date of Liberation Day.
To achieve this goal, even students from a middle school ssireum team joined in, and after a meal that lasted about two hours, the bill totaled 823,000 won. Park Seo-jin personally paid the amount with her own credit card.
This journey held special significance because it went beyond simply commemorating Liberation Day; it involved actively seeking out and learning about history, and returning that gratitude to the descendants of national heroes living today. Park Seo-jin’s day—which began with an “8.15 km run” and ended with an “815,000 won treat”—conveyed the meaning of Liberation Day in a unique way.
