SamsungElectronics to Eliminate Anonymous Internal Bulletin Board… ‘NowTalk’ to Switch to Full Real-Name System
Identities of post and comment authors to be disclosed starting at midnight on the 18th
Operational Restructuring in Line with the Enforcement of the Revised Information and Communications Network Act
Preventing Adverse Effects Such as Defamation and the Spread of Unverified Information
Real-name requirements will not be applied retroactively to existing posts
[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] SamsungElectronics is switching its flagship internal community, “NOW Talk,” to a full real-name system. The move aims to prevent defamation and the spread of false information that have occurred on anonymous message boards and to foster a healthy culture of internal communication.
Samsung’s Seocho Headquarters_[Yonhap News file photo] According to industry sources on the 17th, SamsungElectronics notified its employees that, starting at midnight on the 18th, the names of authors will be disclosed for all posts and comments on NOW Talk.
NOW Talk is an internal communication platform where SamsungElectronics employees share opinions on company news, policies, and major issues. Until now, users have been able to post messages and comments anonymously.
This change is a measure implemented in accordance with the revised Information and Communications Network Act, which took effect last month. The revised law introduces new regulations on false and fabricated information and includes provisions regarding liability for damages resulting from the dissemination of such information.
SamsungElectronics explained that there had been a series of incidents where the internal communication culture was undermined by the use of anonymity to slander others and spread unverified information. The company also recently received guidance from the Ministry of Employment and Labor to address workplace harassment stemming from verbal abuse and slander on NowTalk.
Posts and comments created before the switch to the real-name system will not have the author’s name retroactively applied. Existing functions, such as viewing and posting, will remain unchanged.
SamsungElectronics stated, “This is a measure to protect the reputation and personal dignity of our employees and to establish a culture of communication based on mutual respect,” adding, “We will continue to monitor for violations of operating principles and the dissemination of illegal or false information.”
