According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 18th, “The Martian” drew 620,984 viewers on the 17th alone, taking the top spot at the box office. The cumulative audience count stands at 5,163,461.
According to distributor Universal Pictures, “The Odyssey” surpassed 5 million viewers on the morning of the 17th, its 13th day in theaters. It is estimated that the film, released on a weekday, benefited from the special holiday and drew over 600,000 viewers in a single day.
“The Odyssey” has climbed to fourth place among this year’s box office hits. It surpassed Director Na Hong-jin’s “Hope” (4.48 million) and has closed in on the record held by “The Army” (5.95 million), currently in third place, by a margin of about 800,000 viewers. If its current box office momentum continues, it is projected to surpass “The Army’s” record in the near future.
It is also showing an overwhelming lead in advance ticket sales. As of 6:54 a.m. on the 18th, “Odyssey” had sold 533,503 tickets, recording a 74.3% advance ticket sales rate.
