Global HACCP is a system that manages food hazards in accordance with internationally recognized food safety standards. It evaluates not only the hygiene of the manufacturing process but also “Food Defense”—which prevents intentional external contamination or hazards—and whether management standards are actually being implemented on-site.
With this certification, the Chuncheon Ice Plant has become the only edible ice manufacturer in Korea to hold all four major food safety certifications: General HACCP, Smart HACCP, Global HACCP, and FSSC 22000. The Chuncheon Ice Factory currently produces a total of 11 products, including eight types of bagged ice and three types of cup ice. Since the water used in manufacturing becomes the product itself, water safety is directly linked to product quality.
Established in the early 1990s, the Chuncheon Ice Factory has progressively introduced automation, water purification, and sterilization equipment. Following the acquisition of FSSC 22000 in 2018 and Smart HACCP in 2023, the plant has continued to strengthen its food safety system by obtaining Global HACCP certification this year. In particular, during this certification process, the plant integrated the requirements of the existing FSSC 22000 and Global HACCP into a unified management system and improved inspection items to make them easier for on-site workers to understand, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.
In addition to regular water quality inspections, the plant conducts daily in-house microbiological tests. It also operates an integrated hygiene management system—including equipment cleaning and residual water management—to prevent secondary contamination that may occur in piping, tanks, and ice-making equipment. Key data—including temperature, time, and hygiene conditions—generated throughout the entire process, from raw water management to ice making, crushing, packaging, metal detection, and shipping, is digitized and monitored in real time.
Pulmuone Corporate plans to use this certification to enhance trust among domestic and international customers while strengthening its food safety competitiveness to expand into overseas markets in the future.
Kim Chang-min, Plant Manager of Pulmuone Corporate’s Chuncheon Ice Plant, stated, “Since the water used to manufacture ice becomes the final product itself, thorough, prevention-oriented hygiene management is essential.” He added, “Based on our status as the only company in Korea to operate all four major food safety certification systems, we will supply ice that consumers can trust and establish ourselves as a leading food safety company trusted in the global market.”
