Distributor CJ ENM announced on the 18th, “‘Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub’ has been confirmed for release on September 23.” “Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub” is the final installment in the “Tazza” series—based on the original comic by Heo Young-man—marking the series’ 20th anniversary.
As the final installment of the *Tazza* series, *Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub* is a crime thriller in which Jang Tae-young (Byeon Yo-han)—who thought he had it all thanks to his online casino business—and his best friend of the same name, Park Tae-young (Noh Jae-won), who took everything from him, reunite on the global gambling scene to settle the score.
After the film adaptation was confirmed, author Heo Young-man met with director Choi Guk-hee and named *Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub* his favorite story among the series.
Director Choi Guk-hee recalled, “I remember him asking, ‘Why hasn’t such a great comic been adapted yet?’ That made me determined to make this film even better.”
Unlike the previous three installments, *Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub* delves deeply into the relationship between the two friends. The subtitle, “The Song of Beelzebub,” was taken directly from the original comic. Among the various works presented over the past 52 years by the nationally beloved artist Heo Young-man, *The Song of Beelzebub* boasts the most devoted fan base.
Religious figures in medieval Europe viewed cards as tools of the devil, interpreting hearts as desire, diamonds as greed, and clubs as violence. Each of the 13 cards in the spades suit—which symbolizes death—bears the name of a demon: the Ace of Spades represents Lucifer, the fallen angel cast into hell, while the Two of Spades represents Beelzebub, the former ruler of hell. Of the two demons who staked everything on a gamble, Beelzebub, having lost, was reduced to a dung fly.
Noh Jae-won explained the meaning of the title, saying, “The film unfolds as Park Tae-young tells the story of how the two demons gambled everything they had against each other, and the loser, Beelzebub, was transformed into a dung fly.”
The star-studded cast of *Tazza: Belzebub’s Song* is another highlight. Alongside Byun Yo-han, Noh Jae-won, Ayaka Miyoshi, Jo Woo-jin, Yoon Kyung-ho, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Hong Dao, Kim Min-ho, and Im Se-mi, the appearance of rapper Swings—who takes on an acting role under his real name, Moon Ji-hoon—is generating a lot of anticipation.
