[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-il ] Daehan Optical Communications ( TAIHAN Fiberoptics Co.,LTD(010170)), a company specializing in optical fibers and optical cables, announced on the 18th that it returned to profitability in operating income and net income for the second quarter of this year, driven by expanded sales in the North American market and rising optical fiber prices.
TAIHAN Fiberoptics Co.,LTD reported consolidated revenue of 49.054 billion won for the second quarter, a 17.8% increase from the same period last year. Operating profit was 957 million won, and net income was 445 million won, with both figures returning to profitability.
The improvement in performance was driven by rising optical fiber prices and increased sales in the North American market. In particular, North America’s share of total second-quarter revenue rose significantly to 46%, up from 18% in the same period last year.
TAIHAN Fiberoptics Co.,LTD is strengthening its push into the North American market by securing a local production and sales base through the acquisition of U.S. cable manufacturer Incab America. This move has enabled the company to establish a production system within the U.S. and lay the groundwork to meet local procurement requirements.
In the second half of the year, growing demand for ultra-high-core-count optical cables for data centers is expected to be an additional growth driver. TAIHAN Fiberoptics Co.,LTD explained that this year it has entered the supply chain for 864-core ultra-high-density optical cables for global big tech companies and has secured additional orders. The 864-core optical cable integrates 864 optical fibers into a single cable, enabling high-capacity data transmission.
Rising optical fiber prices are also expected to contribute to improved performance in the second half of the year. The company anticipates that higher prices, compared to the second quarter, will be reflected in revenue starting in the third quarter. An official from TAIHAN Fiberoptics Co.,LTD stated, “Thanks to rising optical fiber prices and increased sales in the U.S. market, both operating profit and net income turned to the black in the second quarter,” adding, “In the second half of the year, we will continue our growth momentum as the expansion of revenue recognition for 864-core optical cables combines with the effect of rising prices.”
