[Edaily Reporter Park Jung-Soo ] SAM CHUN DANG PHARM CO. LTD(000250)has settled the global patent dispute it had been engaged in with Regeneron and Bayer regarding the Eylea biosimilar “SCD411.”
SAM CHUN DANG PHARM CO. LTD announced on the 18th that it has signed a global settlement agreement with Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Bayer Consumer Care—the original developers—to resolve the patent dispute regarding its Eylea biosimilar SCD411 (active ingredient: aflibercept 2 mg).
Under this agreement, all pending patent lawsuits in the covered regions—including Europe, Japan, and South Korea—as well as opposition proceedings before the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office (EPO) will be settled in their entirety.
SAM CHUN DANG PHARM CO. LTD explained that with the conclusion of this agreement—following separate agreements previously reached in the United States and Canada—SAM CHUN DANG PHARM CO. LTD has resolved legal uncertainties regarding patents surrounding the commercialization of SCD411 and secured a foundation for selling the product in global markets.
SAM CHUN DANG PHARM CO. LTD has built up its capabilities in the development and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals in the ophthalmology field, including eye drops. Based on production facilities certified under the European Union’s Good Manufacturing Practice (EU GMP) standards, the company exports eye drops to Europe and the United States, among other regions, and supplies “Bigenfree,” a biosimilar of Eylea, to markets in Canada, Europe, and South Korea.
In addition, the company is advancing the development of formulation and drug delivery platforms, including technologies to convert injectables into oral formulations, as well as long-acting injectables and technologies to convert intravenous formulations into subcutaneous injections. Utilizing these platforms, the company is currently developing oral insulin and oral semaglutide, among other products.
