“Did You See It?” is a review column where we watch trending movies and share our honest impressions and key takeaways. <Editor’s Note>
[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] One day, I woke up to find a dinosaur rummaging through the trash can in front of my house. A preposterous premise, spectacle beyond expectations, and a palpable sense of tension—it was as if Jurassic Park had opened right in my own home.

“The Last Day on Oak Street” is a unique dinosaur movie unlike anything you’ve seen before. You don’t have to venture into a primeval forest or visit a man-made Jurassic Park to encounter dinosaurs. You simply open your eyes to find a dinosaur roaming right in front of your ordinary home. The place that was once the safest becomes, overnight, a perilous battleground for survival.
This ingenious premise is the film’s greatest strength. By transforming ordinary residential neighborhoods, front yards, living rooms, and basements into dinosaur hunting grounds, it creates a sense of tension unlike any other familiar dinosaur movie. The scale is also impressive. The graphics are so vivid that they look as if real dinosaurs were brought in for filming. The dinosaurs are more than just CG characters; they move—sometimes menacingly, sometimes playfully—and deliver action and emotional performances just like any other actor.

You can set aside concerns about plausibility or meticulous historical accuracy for a moment. While some might point out that dinosaurs from different eras appear together in one place, this film isn’t a historical drama or a documentary to begin with. It’s closer to a massive blockbuster that brings together a whole host of prehistoric dinosaurs. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
Anne Hathaway, the “icon of prolific acting,” once again delivers a performance you can count on. From a writer working on a book and a mother of two, to the wife in a strained marriage who transforms into a dinosaur slayer to protect her family—it’s truly an “Anne Hathaway showcase.” She handles a wide range of emotions and action sequences as if they were second nature. In particular, her vivid facial expressions—which make it seem as though she were filming right in front of a real dinosaur—are absolutely stunning.
Ewan McGregor anchors the film as a father struggling to protect his family. While Anne Hathaway radiates boundless energy, Ewan McGregor adds depth by keeping his emotions in check and maintaining restraint. Maisie Stella, who plays the eldest daughter Audrey, and Christian Convery, who plays the youngest son Brian, also hold their own with their convincing performances.

Above all, the film doesn’t rely solely on thrills and tension. It sprinkles humor into every tense moment, much like a dash of ketchup. In particular, the scene where Ewan McGregor takes a selfie after witnessing the dinosaurs’ “big moment” perfectly illustrates just how playfully the film approaches the dinosaur genre.
“The Last Day on Oak Street” is perfect not only for dinosaur movie enthusiasts but also for audiences looking for a dynamic family film. It has it all: a whimsical premise, breathtaking spectacle, and just the right amount of humor. Directed by David Robert Mitchell. Runtime: 99 minutes. Opens August 26. No post-credits scene.
