[E-Daily Reporter Park Jung-Soo ] Photon ( BIOLOG DEVICE CO., LTD(208710)), a company specializing in actuator components, announced on the 19th that it has completed its investment in EdgeQ and secured a 50% stake in the company. Since signing an investment agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOA) with EdgeQ last June, PHOTON has been pursuing joint R&D and commercialization plans. By finalizing the investment following a recent board resolution, the company has strengthened its management participation and foundation for cooperation in the next-generation cooling technology business. EdgeQ is a company developing next-generation cooling technology based on quantum precision control. It is currently collaborating with Professor Jeong In’s research team at Seoul National University to develop next-generation thermoelectric material technology. Unlike conventional refrigerant-based cooling systems, the technology the company is developing utilizes quantum thermoelectric all-solid-state materials to control heat. PHOTON explained that it decided to invest after reviewing EdgeQ’s technological capabilities and business potential over the past few months, based on its collaboration framework with the Seoul National University research team and its commercialization strategy. PHOTON views this investment as a strategic move to secure future growth engines and plans to pursue commercialization primarily in sectors where demand for high-efficiency cooling solutions is expanding, including AI data centers, future mobility, energy storage systems (ESS), industrial thermal management systems, and automotive cooling. Furthermore, PHOTON intends to combine its manufacturing and mass-production capabilities with EdgeQ’s technology to advance commercialization and market entry, while cultivating the next-generation thermal management business as a new growth engine. Kim Jeong-wook, Chairman of PHOTON, stated, “This equity investment is not merely a financial investment but a strategic decision to secure future growth engines,” adding, “We will strive to lead the next-generation thermal management market and achieve early commercialization results by combining PHOTON’s manufacturing competitiveness with EdgeQ’s technological capabilities.”
