[Edaily Starin Reporter Gim Ga Yeong ] Hong Hye-geol, a doctor and TV personality, revealed the story of how his wife, Esther Yeo, even gave a house to their housekeeper as a gift.

Hong Hye-geol, Haha, Park Young-jin, and Heuki Shibasaki appeared on the episode of MBC’s “Radio Star” that aired on the 19th.
Hong Hye-geol revealed that he is currently a “stay-at-home husband,” attributing it to “my wife.” He explained, “My wife has depression, so she stays in her room all day,” adding, “I try to eat breakfast and dinner with her whenever possible. I massage her shoulders, stroke her hair—I’m her personal butler.”
He continued, “Many people say I’m living the good life, but it’s not easy watching my wife struggle with depression.”
Hong Hye-geol mentioned that his wife, Esther Yeo, is doing better, saying, “My wife says she’ll have to take care of her housekeeper for the rest of her life. She even says the housekeeper might be more important than me.” He added, “She takes care of everything for my wife—from what she eats to what she wears—and is a very important person to her.”
He then surprised everyone by saying, “My wife even bought a house for her housekeeper.” Hearing this, HaHa asked, “Is it in Gangnam?” Hong Hye-geol replied, “Yes,” adding, “The housekeeper has been with us for 10 years.”
Hong Hye-geol noted that his wife’s depression has improved significantly, saying, “My wife is now breaking off pieces of corn.” He continued, “She couldn’t even open the lid with those delicate hands, but she was breaking off pieces of corn to eat. After finishing one, she asked for another.
I almost started crying,” he said, his voice choking up.
He also recalled the time he and his wife, Esther Yeo, were living apart. “I went down to Jeju Island during the COVID-19 pandemic and stayed there for five years,” he explained. “My wife’s depression was so severe that when she saw me in the morning, she would force a smile. I felt it was unfair to make her do that, so we decided to live apart.”
He continued, “Last year, I went to Hyeopjae Beach. The weather was nice, so I sent a photo to my wife, but she reacted with disappointment.” He added, “It turned out she was having dark thoughts that day and was undergoing treatment. While she was struggling through that treatment, her husband was casually sending her photos. I felt guilty, so I went back to Seoul the next day. My wife really needs me.”
