Three-Year Shareholder Returns to Reach 120 Trillion to 140 Trillion
[E-Daily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] SamsungElectronics will implement shareholder returns totaling up to 110 trillion won this year. This marks the largest amount in the company’s history.
SamsungElectronics announced that it held a board of directors meeting on the 21st and approved a plan to implement shareholder returns expected to total approximately 90 trillion to 110 trillion won this year. This amount is roughly five times the previous record of 20.3 trillion won in shareholder returns made in 2020.
The company explained that this record-breaking shareholder return is intended to ensure that the fruits of the company’s growth translate into tangible benefits for shareholders, thereby sustaining a virtuous cycle where the company’s growth and enhanced shareholder value reinforce one another.
Previously, SamsungElectronics had announced a three-year shareholder return policy for 2024–2026, stating that it would allocate 50% of its free cash flow to shareholder returns. This move is intended to faithfully implement that policy. Including this year’s shareholder returns, the total amount of shareholder returns for the three-year period from 2024 to 2026 is expected to reach 120 trillion to 140 trillion won.
In particular, the company plans to pay cash dividends totaling approximately 30 trillion won in the third quarter. Specific details will be finalized at a board meeting in late October. Regarding the remaining shareholder returns, the company plans to determine the methods and scale—including cash dividends, share buybacks, and share cancellations—at a board meeting in January of next year, once the 2026 business results are finalized.
Meanwhile, SamsungElectronics also approved a share buyback program worth approximately 15 trillion won for employee compensation at today’s board meeting. SamsungElectronics’ Seocho Headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul. (Photo: E-Daily, Reporter Lee Young-hoon)
